The escape of @Facebook @META's 4 engineers to create their WEB3 infrastructure. ZOOM on Sui by Mysten labs, the potential future top 10 Blockchain.

A thread:

"By 2020-2021 it was becoming clear that all the technology we built at Meta wasn't going to be prototyped. It's not Facebook's job to create an open platform, right? "Evan Cheng, Mysten Las CEO

First, what is Mysten LABS ?

Mysten Labs is a research and development company founded by former Facebook engineers aiming to solve fundamental WEB3 problems such as adoption and security.

To do so, they are working on accelerating consensus, securing smart contracts, and self-sovereignty of digital assets.

That’s how Sui got established

Sui is a next-generation permissionless, green and decentralized protocol aiming to reach 1 billion users.

Sui performance and unlimited horizontal scalability could be achieved thanks to the Move programming language, a new mempool protocol called Narwhal and the Tusk consensus algorithm.

Transaction finality is instantaneous. As such, Sui is expected to provide unprecedented performance in terms of latency, throughput and cost.

How is it possible ?

The main idea is to forgo the actual consensus for the most common transactions (payments and asset transfers), resulting in instant transfers. This system layer is reserved only for complex transactions.

Sui's smart contract programming language is Move. It is an open source object-oriented language, very different from Solidity but easy to understand for humans and compilers.

However, the architecture is unique as it does not consider assets as equivalent and separates them into several categories.

When making a transaction with a single owner asset, there is no need to go through the consensus system (meaning no POS, POW, POA..). Instead the network will follow a cryptographic model where no malicious actors can compromise the chain called Byzantine system.

For a transaction with a shared object: as elsewhere, Sui goes through a consensus system so that it can be assigned a date and a position on the chain.
